Our story is a good one, movie-worthy really. But the whole story is way too long to explain here. This is an “in-a-nutshell” version. We’re Susan and Aaron. Our story started in 1993 in Pensacola, Florida when we were 18 and 19 years old. (Y’all can do the math to figure out how old we are now.) We dated for only 3 months that summer until Aaron crushed Susan’s heart by kicking her to the curb. (Seriously, Aaron actually broke up with Susan while we were sitting on a curb.😆) Neither of us really remember a reason for the break up – no drama, he just didn’t want to be in a relationship.
Eventually Aaron went back to Australia/New Zealand for a bit (he spent his first 15 years there), then came back to Pensacola in 1996 and reconnected with Susan. We didn’t get back together then, however we know now that we both wanted to. And just like the break-up, there was no real reason. Then Aaron traveled to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands to live. (Yes really. Aaron has lived in some stellar locations.😎) He came back in 1998 for a short visit and again reconnected with Susan. And again, we know now that we both wanted to make things work, but again nothing happened…and again no reason. That was the last time we saw each other or even spoke until 2024.
Then, in the summer of 2024, Aaron reached out to Susan. That’s a story in itself! It was a series of crazy coincidences with travel plans and mutual friends. We actually believe it was God’s plan from the beginning, and we weren’t supposed to be together until now. Since we hadn’t kept in touch since 1998 we had no idea what the other was up to. We moved to different states (Oklahoma and Colorado – both landlocked), we had families, had established ourselves…and we both missed the beach terribly. And ironically, we were both going through divorces. We talked a lot on the phone but didn’t see each other in person until months later. It didn’t take long to realize we were completely in love. Our connection felt so rare and special; the kind of thing people hope for but don’t always find. It was like we were teenagers again, but older. We joked that we were ‘Old Teenagers’.
